#8 Ohio State 26, #7 Oregon 17 Pasadena, California - Friday, January 1, 2010 - Ohio State won the 2010 BCS Rose Bowl championship game with stellar performances on both sides of the ball defeating Oregon to finish the season at 11-2. Ohio State dominated statistics in first downs 26-12, total yards 419-260, passing 266-81 and time of posession 41:37-18:23. Ohio State sophomore quarterback Terrelle Pryor was named the Rose Bowl MVP while having his best day as a Buckeye by completing 23 of 37 passes for 266 yards, two touchdowns and rushing for another 72 yards. Meanwhile the Ohio State defense shutdown the Oregon spread offense, forcing two turnovers while keeping Oregon standout quarterback Jeremiah Masoli in check. hlb #9 Ohio State 21, Michigan 10 Ann Arbor, Michigan - Saturday, November 21, 2009 - Rose Bowl bound Ohio State, now 10-2, 7-1, won their fifth consecutive Big Ten championship, this one outright, by defeating the Michigan Wolverines for a historic sixth straight time. The Ohio State defense forced 5 turnovers and limited Michigan to just 80 yards rushing. Terrelle Pryor is quietly becoming the leader he needs to be and is 2-0 vs. Michigan as the starting QB. His stats were 9 of 17 passing, 1 TD and 1 Int. The Ohio State running game racked up 251 yards rushing. Jim Tressel meanwhile improved his record over Michigan to 8-1. hlb #10 Ohio State 42, Michigan 7 Columbus, Ohio - Saturday, November 22, 2008 - Ohio State won their forth consecutive Big Ten championship by defeating the Michigan Wolverines for a historic fifth straight time. Chris (Beanie) Wells lead the Buckeyes by rushing for 143 yards and a touchdown as Daniel (Boom) Herron added 2 touchdown runs of 49 and 2 yards and freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor threw for 2 touchdowns. Senior middle linebacker James Laurinaitis was named the game's most valuable player. The defense held Michigan to 198 yards and forced 12 punts. Jim Tressel meanwhile improved his record over Michigan to 7-1. hlb #7 Ohio State 14, #23 Michigan 3 Ann Arbor, Michigan - Saturday, November 17, 2007 - Ohio State won their third consecutive Big Ten title, second straight outright, by defeating the Michigan Wolverines for the forth straight time. On a rain soaked day in the Big House, Chris (Beanie) Wells lead the Buckeyes by rushing for 222 yards and scoring two touchdowns. The defense held Michigan to 15 yards rushing and 91 yards of total offense. The Buckeyes assured themselves of at least a trip to the Rose Bowl in Pasadina, California. Meanwhile, Jim Tressel improved his record over Michigan to 6-1. hlb #1 Ohio State 42, #2 Michigan 39 Columbus, Ohio - Saturday, November 18, 2006 - The Buckeyes are headed back to the desert for the BCS National Championship game in Glendale, Arizona. In a wild shootout in Columbus, the #1 Buckeyes overcame three second half turnovers and hung on to defeat #2 Michigan for the outright Big Ten title and a birth in the championship game. Troy Smith probably cemented his bid for the Heisman Trophy with 4 touchdown passes to 4 different receivers while passing for 316 yards. Jim Tressel meanwhile improved his record over Michigan to 5-1. hlb #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 Austin, Texas - Saturday, September 9, 2006 - With the eyes of the nation watching the much anticipated matchup of the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. the #2 defending national champion Texas Longhorns, Ohio State Quarterback Troy Smith put up another Heisman Trophy performance by passing for 269 yards and two touchdowns while the young Ohio State defense turned in a stellar performance holding Texas to single digits. hlb #4 Ohio State 34, #5 Notre Dame 20 Tempe, Arizona - Monday, January 2, 2006 - The Ohio State Buckeyes dominated the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame with big plays and speed, scoring four long touchdowns while their attacking defense kept the pressure on throughout the game. The Buckeye offense put up 617 yards of total offense setting a Fiesta Bowl record with 27 first downs. Quarterback Troy Smith had another huge game, passing for a career high 342 yards, 2 touchdowns and ran for another 66 yards. Troy was named the offensive MVP while linebacker A. J. Hawk was named the defensive MVP. This was Ohio State's fourth straight bowl game victory while closing out their 2005 season record at 10-2. Jim Tressel has now improved his record in bowl games at Ohio State to 4-1. hlb #9 Ohio State 25, #17 Michigan 21 Ann Arbor, Michigan - Saturday, November 19, 2005 - Ohio State registered a stunning come from behind victory over archrival Michigan in Ann Arbor. Ohio State overcame a 21-12 fourth quarter deficit with two late touchdowns to claim a share of the Big Ten championship. The offense dominated Michigan in most offensive categories. The defense was able to make Michigan one dimensional despite losing linebacker Bobby Carpenter to injury on his first play. Several mistakes on special teams however would make this game a titanic struggle. Determined not to waste a great effort, with 4:18 left in the game and trailing 21-19, Troy Smith lead the Buckeyes to a most unforgettable 88 yard drive in 3:54 for a touchdown and left Michigan with just 24 seconds remaining and no timeouts. This will be remembered as one of the greatest comebacks of this great rivalry. Jim Tressel has now improved his record over Michigan to 4-1. hlb Ohio State 37, #7 Michigan 21 Columbus, Ohio - Saturday, November 20, 2004 - The Buckeyes registered a stunning upset of the seventh ranked Wolverines by outplaying them in every phase of the game. While the twelfth man came to the Horseshoe and made a huge impact, the Buckeyes would come up with one big play after another while putting together drives of 99 and 97 yards. Two Michigan goal line stands would not deny the Buckeyes on this day as they won "The Game" with outstanding offense, defense and special teams. Ted Ginn, Jr. broke the game open with his 82 yard punt return for a touchdown. Troy Smith played the game of his life as he passed for 241 yards and rushed for another 145 yards. The rest of the heros that made huge plays were too numerous to mention. This great victory in the 101st meeting with archrival Michigan was truly an outstanding team effort. hlb #7 Ohio State 35, #8 Kansas State 28 Tempe, Arizona - Friday January 2, 2004 - The Buckeyes returned to the desert for the Fiesta Bowl as underdogs again and defeated the Kansas State Wildcats for the BCS Fiesta Bowl championship. Quarterback Craig Krenzel was named the Fiesta Bowl offensive MVP for the second straight year after throwing four touchdown passes and linebacker A. J. Hawk was named the defensive MVP. The Buckeyes ended the season ranked ahead of Michigan, fourth in both the AP Poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. hlb #2 Ohio State 31, #1 Miami 24 Tempe, Arizona - Friday January 3, 2003 - Jim Tressel, in only his second year as head coach, lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to their first national championship in 34 years. In perhaps the most thrilling football game ever played at any level, the Buckeyes stunned the sports world by defeating the heavily favored and top ranked Miami Hurricanes in double overtime with a goal line stand on the one yard line to end the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl for the BCS National Championship. This game ended Miami's 34 game winning streak and returned the Ohio State Buckeyes to the top of the college football world. hlb "We are so proud of these young men, these 13 seniors.
